Drug Uses

Aciphex exerts an anti-secretory action on parietal (oxyntic) cells of the stomach, reduces the amount of gastric juice, inhibits the hydrochloric acid production, promotes a high degree of mucosa defects healing, and is used:

• For monotherapy of ulcers of various intestine parts, as well as for the prevention of recurrent relapses.

• In combination with antimicrobial agents for the eradication of spiral-shaped micro-organisms in the mucous layer of the stomach (H pylori).

Doctors recommend taking one Aciphex 20mg pill per day for a period of 30 to 60 days for restoring the bowel function. A second course of the treatment may be required for a complete healing.

The daily Aciphex dosage can be increased to 60 mg every 12 hours, if the excessively high concentration of the hormone gastrin provoked a severe intestinal damage (e.g., Zollinger-Ellison syndrome).

Missed Dose

If the patient is taking Aciphex tablets in the morning, he/she can take the missed dose throughout the day. The dose should be omitted, if it is too close to the time for the next dose. Simultaneous intake of two doses does not increase the treatment efficacy.

More Information

Aciphex Side Effects

Aciphex is usually well tolerated, and the side effects appear only at the initial stage of its use. A small percentage of adults, using this proton pump inhibitor for a short-term therapy, may get pharyngitis, flatulence, infection and constipation.

Adolescents, using Aciphex for a long-term treatment, may have abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and headache. It is noteworthy that the side effects, possible in children and adolescents, are rarely observed in adult patients.
