Lanoxin is a cardiotonic drug with antiarrhythmic activity. Lanoxin is used to treat mild to moderate congestive cardiac failure in children and adults, as well as chronic atrial fibrillation in adults.

 

Lanoxin is effective in the treatment of atrial fibrillation and cardiac failure association with various risk factors, including but not limited to:

 

  • hypertension
  • valvular lesions
  • systolic dysfunction
  • ventricular dilatation
  • atherosclerotic heart disease
  • supraventricular dysrhythmias
  • paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia

 

The recommended maintenance dose of oral Lanoxin is 0.5mg (500 micrograms) per day. To achieve rapid digitalization, high daily doses of Lanoxin up to 12 mcg per each patient’s kg can be assigned.

 

Missed Dose

 

In case if you forget to take a regular dose of Lanoxin in time, use it as soon as possible. Be attentive and do not use two doses of this cardiotonic drug at the same time. If you remember about the missed dose of Lanoxin closely to the time of your next dose, skip the forgotten tablet and return to your usual schedule.

Lanoxin Side Effects

 

In most cases, unwanted effects occur when using high doses of Lanoxin. The most frequent cardiac effects of Lanoxin are bigeminy, sinus bradycardia, trigeminy, conduction disturbances or arrhythmia.
